Description

Welders manage the machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment. These skilled professionals work in a variety of industries including automotive, construction, and manufacturing. Other duties include planning layouts and measurements and testing welded surfaces.

Requirements

1.      High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

2.      A valid certificate in welding from an accredited institution is preferred.

3.      A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a welder.

4.      Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.

5.      Ability to read and interpret blueprints and designs.

6.      Outstanding attention to detail.

Responsibilities

1.      Interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts.

2.      Weld small and large components such as copper plumbing, beams, and pipelines.

3.      Use specialized machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job.

4.      Maintain and repair all machinery.

5.      Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.

6.      Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.

7.      Monitor machinery for appropriate usage and temperature.

8.      Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
