Description

The Accountant will be responsible for the management and reporting of financial data of the organization. His/her main duties include preparing financial statements, examining, and analyzing the company’s accounts and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures. This role requires the candidate to be trustworthy and possess the ability to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy. The Accountant can expect to work with large amounts of numerical data, handle multiple tasks with deadlines, and provide transparent and complete reports to senior management. He/She should have a firm grasp of accounting and financial practices and regulations and possess strong computer and verbal and written communication skills. He/She should be prompt, honest, detail-oriented, professional, and analytical. Must demonstrate excellent presentation skills with the ability to successfully communicate complex quantitative data to decision-makers.

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • At least level II ACCA (higher levels of accomplishment would be an asset).

  • 5+ years of senior-level accounting experience.

  • Familiarity with accounting and finance principles and procedures.

  • Strong discipline of financial management including financial tracking, budgeting, and forecasting

  • Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite primarily Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Self-starter and capable of operating with minimal supervision.

  • Be able to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment completing objectives efficiently with a sense of responsibility.

Responsibilities

This position is “hands on” and includes but not limited to the following essential duties:

  • Complying with all company, and local accounting and financial regulations.

  • Ensure timely, accurate month-end closing and financial reporting to Senior Management.

  • Compiling, analysing, and reporting financial data.

  • Creating periodic reports, such as balance sheets, profit & loss statements, etc.

  • Responsible for preparation and closing of monthly and annual financial statements, including but not limited to coordinating with other team members.

  • Prepares ad hoc financial reporting requests, other analyses and special projects as requested by senior management.

  • Responsible for accounting processes and tasks (for example: AP & AR process, GL, bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, etc.)

  • Responsible for the procurement and pricing function of the organization.

  • Responsible for coordinating and finalizing year-end audits in a specific timeframe.

  • Fixed Assets and inventory accounting analysis and reconciliation.

  • Coordinate and liaise with internal parties to support intercompany activities.

  • Support forecasting and budgeting exercise as per corporate guidelines

  • Coordinate and liaise with external parties like external auditors, bank representatives, local tax and government authorities where required.

  • Support and ensure compliance with all finance filing requirements, tax filing requirement, audits, procedures, and forms both statutory and internal.

  • Assist in new processes and system implementation when required.

  • Performing audits and resolving discrepancies.

  • Computing and remitting taxes and other statutory obligations.

  • Keeping informed about current legislation relating to finance and accounting. Stay up to date with emerging trends in the accounting, pharmaceutical and OTC retail industries.

  • Assisting management in the decision-making process by preparing budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Supervise the operations of the accounting department which includes delegation of tasks, and the scheduling of team members to complete various activities.  Assign daily responsibilities and set expectations for the accounting team.

  • Ensure that the accounting staff has working knowledge of all the computer and technology systems and software and ensure that all systems problems are responded to by contacting IT Support immediately when issues arise.

  • Review sales data every day and prepare to discuss with the General Manager/CEO.

  • Manage the performance of team members by assigning responsibilities, setting goals, observing their performances, providing feedback, and by giving recognition.

  • Monitor and ensure timely completion of all required training programs for all the team members within the department and provide coaching for all team members.

  • Address issues and discipline team members when necessary

  • Promote teamwork and motivate team members by setting expectations, monitoring results, and showing enthusiasm, and through vision sharing.

  • Protect organization’s value by always keeping information confidential.

  • Ensure total compliance with all corporate policies and employment laws, and consistently treat all team members fairly, while maintaining respectful relationships with coworkers.

  • Communicate regularly with the team members through one-on-one discussions, answering questions, group meetings, soliciting input, and through open communication between the management and non-management team members.

  • Complete any special assignments or other tasks as assigned.
